Developed in the 1950s, the Health Belief Model (HBM) is a model that attempts to clarify why individuals do not partake in accessible health services by using methods or approaches that directly or indirectly influence positive health behavioral outcomes based on intervention techniques. The concepts of HBM can be applied to why some women do not engage in behaviors to prevent Osteoporosis, for example. Based on the primary constructs of the HBM, there are six main reasons why women may not engage in preventing osteoporosis.
